- Sean Dunn from CT: I just got back from our PMC weekend and I wanted to let you know about the feedback people were giving us. If it wasn't for Lance Armstrong riding on the first day of the event, the biggest thing talked about would have been our uniforms. People liked them when they saw them from a little distance, and then when they got closer and saw the names and the colors they were almost speechless, from the emotion and significance that the uniforms were displaying. There were over 5000 riders and over 3000 volunteers at this event and we probably got complements from a third of them. People on the road were screaming to us as we went by, "Best uniform ever", "Love the uniforms". If riders didn't say something to us, because we were a little out of their distance when we were walking around at opening ceremonies, you could see them double take and then nudge the person next to them with a point. It was amazing. Thank you a million times over to you and your team for getting this job done.

When I bought it, I was expecting a bike 39 years old to have some dings in it, but this bike looks like one that never left the floor of the shop! I have actually seen shop worn bikes that didn’t look this good. Needless to say I am completely overwhelmed and feel like I am actually going back thirty nine years to buy the bike of my dreams at the Bike Shop in Auburn. Bill Pomeroy enclosed a kind letter and the original bill of sale including the retrofit of the finger tip shifters. The bike retailed for $184.00. The next year, this same bike retailed for $400.00 (bringing back memories of runaway inflation and the devalued dollar in those days), but the 2011 International retails for $6400.00! Please feel free to share my email address with Bill as I would love to establish a connection with him, and sent images of the bike when I get it together in original factory form. Again, thank you very much. This bike was worth every penny.

- William Pomeroy from FL: First off, Jeff, I am so pleased that you are happy with the bike. One of the reasons I was in no hurry to sell and resisted the idea of discounting was that I very much hoped that the person who ended up with the bike would really want and care for it (i.e. not part it out), and that seems to be very much the case. I think the bill(s) of sale showed an 1/2 down payment ($184) on a total sales price of $360-something. You will also note that the first bill (there are two separate numbers) showed a chartreuse bike, which was the color I wanted. When the bike came in it was the champagne color and the bike guy was pretty iffy about if/when he could get any more, so of course I took it. I also think I ordered it in a smaller frame, but being too dumb and too in love to understand/care about what I now know to be the crucial issue of proper fit, I simply rode off on cloud 9. I did my best to take good care of the bike, but over the years I did some (for me) epic rides on it, including my very fist "big bike ride" in 1980 from Naples, Florida to Akron, Ohio via my brother's house in Johnson City TN. I now know that I did it "all wrong" (according to current packing/loading wisdom) with full camping/cooking/clothing/parts/tools gear jammed into a red nylon Gerry pannier tied by ribbons to the "rat trap" rear rack (I was careful to put rubber gaskets made from an inner tube where the rack clamped to the frame) and a huge/heavy bag hanging from the handlebar. It handled terribly and was a real wild, shuddering, shimmying, twitchy ride on downhills, but not knowing any better, it was just part of the excitement. Riding gear was cut-off jean shorts, tennis shoes and tee shirts, Succumbing to the urging/nagging/promise-extracting persistence of my mother, I bought my fist helmet (Carlos, remember the "Skid Lid"?) in Johnson City and wore it the rest of the trip. Trip of course had its ups and downs (get it?) with full range of glorious sunrises, sunsets, perfect riding days and...... flats, encounters with the po-lice (got kicked off the interstate somewhere in Georgia), inadvertently stopping to camp only to find to my horror that I was in a "dry" county, bugs, wind, etc. you know, in other words............ perfect. I still have my trip journal but have not looked at it for many years. Maybe now is a good time to revisit. Years later, and specifically for my "second big ride" the year I turned 40 (Florida to California to Iowa to Michigan.....and etc. basically a loopy circumnavigation of the U.S., 10 months on the road) I bought, rode and loved a Bruce Gordon Rock 'n Road Tour w/ custom racks and Beckman packs. The difference in handling was amazing, could just let her rip on the downhills due to proper load distribution and bike fit. I had considered doing the ride on the Raleigh but am now so glad I did not. The BG is simply the superior tourer and fit me better. Now I am equally glad that I "saved" the Raleigh from the trip as there is no way it would now be the same bike for Jeff to enjoy. Love (and still have) the BG, love my new Specialized Roubaix Comp, but there is nothing like a first love. Second, Carlos, thanks again for your help and good efforts. I had very mixed feelings about selling the Raleigh but could not be happier with the way it went and who the bike went to. If it helps to have/list seller feedback you may most certainly list me as a very satisfied customer. BTW I know a guy (an old riding chum) w/ a vintage Raleigh pro. Don't know if he wants to sell or ever will, but if he does I will steer him (get it?) to you. Jeff, I am of course very interested in your plans for the bike and would love to see some pics.
